From discovery to reconnection.
A family story. A DNA discovery. A question you have carried for years. There are many reasons to make this journey, and no single way to belong.
The Founding 100 invites African Americans and other members of the African diaspora into a six-day experience of culture, history, nature and community. Sharing ancestry information is always voluntary. The journey does not promise a precise ethnic or family match.
Told by Togolese voices.
Historians, cultural custodians, guides, artisans and young people tell their own stories. Encounters are designed with host communities, with consent, respect for sacred spaces and fair compensation at their heart.
A legacy that stays.
The program is designed to grow beyond a single trip: a documentary, a “100 Stories” archive, community legacy projects and lasting relationships through education, creativity and future visits.
The people behind the program.
Roots to Togo is an initiative of CYWEP — Children, Youth and Women Empowerment Program — owned and coordinated by Hemnia Djimagni. AFROAC (African Affairs Communications LLC, Washington, D.C.) is the program design, operations and delivery partner.
